Door and Window Seals

Bad door and window seals let hot and cold air in and out. This causes your heating and cooling to work harder and wastes energy. Wasted energy means higher energy bills. Checking seals and repairing any problems right away will help keep your energy bill down and save you money.

Check for leaks yourself or have a professional check for you.

It's easy to feel around your doors and windows for air leakage. Sometimes, however, the leaks may be hidden or may be coming from other parts of your home. Professionals with special equipment can do a more thorough test if you need.

The Blower Door Test

is a common test performed by a professional to check for air leakage. This test in done by drawing air out of the home using a fan that is attached to an exterior door. Then the air flow back into the home is measured. The results of the test indicate where air leaks are located and how bad they are.

Seal any holes, gaps or cracks right away.

Because these air leaks mean wasted energy, it's important to fix them as soon as possible. As we said, the most common sealing materials are caulking and weather stripping. You can find both at home improvements stores, hardware stores and some grocery stores. Application is fairly easy. If you do need more assistance, just ask a sales person.

Is It Time for new Doors and Windows?

Maybe your doors and windows need more help than just some sealing. If it's time for some new ones, we can help you find the right ones for your home and family and provide you with a free checklist for buying Energy Efficient Windows.
