Why A Vinegar Wash Is The Perfect Way To Go Green With Your Laundry!

by Sue Bond
(San Diego, California, USA)

When it comes to going green with your cleaning products, you may just find that some green ingredients are actually more effective than their chemical alternatives - and this is certainly true when you use a vinegar wash for your laundry.

Why Should You Choose Vinegar For Your Laundry?

There are so many reasons why a vinegar wash is the perfect choice for your laundry - but let's start with the environment.

All the cleaning products we buy - including detergent, fabric softener and bleach - are filled with chemicals that they don't even list on the labels.

These make their way into our water, harming animals, and they get absorbed through our skin, slowly harming our own health. Not to mention the allergic reactions that many of us suffer with!

The idea that we must use chemicals to clean effectively simply isn't true. Natural ingredients, such as vinegar, can actually work as a fantastic - and cost effective - replacement for the ingredients we've come to rely on.

What's more, vinegar will not have a detrimental effect on the environment.

How To Use Vinegar To Wash Your Clothes Effectively!

Vinegar is perfect for use on whites to make them come out as clean as possible: you really don't need to use bleach.

For tough stains, soak them in a mixture of one part vinegar to two parts water. You can even add undiluted white vinegar directly to stains to rub them away.

When it comes to cleaning your clothes in the washing machine, the Vinegar Institute recommends that you add vinegar to the last rinse, as a replacement for softener, to effectively get rid of any soap or detergent.

Is Vinegar Really Effective?

It's perfectly understandable to have reservations about washing your clothes in this way, but the truth is that a vinegar wash is both an effective and hygienic way to wash your clothes.

Vinegar is strong enough to get rid of stains and odor, but gentle enough to keep your clothes in good condition.

And, although vinegar itself has a strong odor, your clothes will ultimately come out smelling fresh after the smell quickly wears off.

So, if you're looking for ways to go green but aren't sure where to start, why not pick up a bottle of white vinegar next time you're out?

Eventually you'll start to wonder why you never used a vinegar wash before!
