What type of seaweed dyes the color green?

Green seaweed belongs to a group of algae called Chlorophyta, with more than 7,000 species. They are green due to the presence of chlorophyll. Chlorophyll enables seaweed to make food using sunlight. The Romans first used the green pigment as dyes. Since this pigment is naturally occurring, it is a good alternative to chemical dyes and coloring agents.
