The Impact of Green Living
on Your Health !

by Danielle
(Houston,Texas, USA)

I have got some great tips for you today - some that may shock but will ultimately reassure you that your quest toward green living is the right one.

Green living isn’t always associated with healthy living. Whilst we might assume that living green can benefit our health in many ways, the main reason we try to live green could be as simple as saving a little money.

"We share the earth not only with our fellow human beings, but with all the other creatures." - The Dalai Lama

However, I recently started looking into the health benefits of going green and I couldn’t believe what I read:

Cleaning - Did you know that the manufacturers of our cleaning products aren’t legally obligated to list the ingredients they contain? Many include toxins as harsh as rat poisoning, and even items like soap can be bad for our skin and our overall health.

Clothing - When you do your laundry, it isn’t just the toxins getting into our water systems that we have to worry about. It’s the chemicals of our detergents getting into our skin and our lungs.

Take our bed sheets, for example. We spend hours every night sleeping in them, constantly absorbing detergents as well as dyes and chemicals from the fabric itself. Choosing organic, natural materials can greatly reduce the health risk for us and our whole family.

Food - There's no conclusive proof to show that organic food is any more nutritious than chemically grown food. Even if that’s the case, by choosing organic you’ll be choosing not to ingest the numerous toxic pesticides that most of us ingest every day.

Water - Many people think that you need to drink bottled water to be healthy, but this usually isn’t the case at all. Going green could mean giving up that bottled water, but it really isn’t so bad.

Remember, tap water is regulated by environmental agencies, it’s more convenient than bottled water, and doesn’t contain the nasty, carcinogenic chemicals found in plastic drinking bottles.

These are just a few ways in which green living can start to improve your health. They aren’t meant to scare you, but in many ways these facts were a wakeup call for me and my green living efforts.

It’s never too late to improve things for yourself and for your family. Doing something as small as changing your washing powder could make a huge difference to your health, as well as the future of our environment.
