The Best Fire Safety Equipment
...... For Your Home

by Kelly
(San Francisco, CA, USA)

Some people have a fire extinguisher in their kitchen and think they are safe from a fire. The problem is a fire spreads very rapidly and can become out of control in just a matter of minutes!.

By having the right fire safety equipment in your home, it can literally mean the difference between life and death. You spend a lot of time in your home, regardless if you have a large family or small, accidents can happen when cooking or it can be caused by faulty wiring.

Whatever the cause, once a fire breaks out, what you do next and the tools you have to get out of the house safely is often determined by the right equipment.

First of all, no matter how much you love your home, do not try to be a hero by trying to put a blazing fire out. Your job if a fire breaks out is to make sure everyone is out of the home safely. A home and all your belongings can be replaced, but the lives of your family members cannot.

This alone is reason enough to make sure you have all the necessary fire safety equipment in place. Therefore, you need to have smoke detectors, fire sprinkler systems, water fire extinguishers, and exit signs in your home.

Smoke detectors have been around for many years and have been perfected since their early days. Many are sensitive enough to detect fumes and heat as well as smoke from a fire, which is good because sometimes you may see no smoke, but there could be fumes coming from somewhere in your home that and the smoke alarm is alerting you to it.

You have a choice of electric or battery operated smoke detectors. One of the best battery-operated smoke detectors is the Lithium that has a 10-year life, and the least desirable are the old-fashioned smoke detectors using the 9-volt battery because the batteries do not hold their charge for long.

The fire sprinkler systems are installed in all newer homes and newer apartment complexes. Most homes that were built in the 1980's or earlier do not have the sprinkler systems because they were not fully functional at the time.

They have been perfected and can detect heat and flames and then gush and sprinkle water from each sprinkler head. These can be installed in any home and is something that no home should be without because they have literally saved millions of lives since their invention.

Fire extinguishers, such as the chubb fire extinguisher, are something you must have in your home. You should place one in your kitchen, bathroom, and in other areas throughout your home. Everyone in the family needs to know where these extinguishers are located for a quick way to put out a small fire.

Keep in mind the fire extinguisher is only for a small fire to get it under control before it spreads, it is not meant to fight a blazing fire. You should have exit signs placed in your home that illuminate even when there is no power, because fires quickly give off black smoke, and make it impossible to see where you are going.
