The Benefits Of A Solar Attic Fan!

by Norma Marshall
(Montreal, Canada)

A solar attic fan can help cool your home and remove damaging moisture from your attic while saving you big on energy costs. These simple-to-install attic vents are the perfect way to reduce your electricity needs while making life a bit simpler all around.

Heat builds up in your attic when the sun shines on your roof. This heat buildup can really drain your air conditioning as the heat siphons down the walls and comes through the attic floor.

Even with good attic insulation, your house will heat up rapidly as the solar heat is trapped in the attic. All of that heat is bad for the wood in your home as well.

Heat and condensation from moist internal air buildup on the wood in your home and create mold and wood rot. This can lead to expensive repairs or even dangerous mold hiding in the walls of your home.

A solar attic fan can be installed with simple tools. There is no electrical hookup to worry about, so installing a solar attic fan is something that even a beginner can do relatively easily. You can always have yours installed by a local contractor or handyman, of course, but you can install it yourself if desired.

Solar fans are available for gable installation or for roof installation. A gable installation is usually the easiest and you may even be able to simply replace an existing vent to add the solar gable fan.

These fans are simple to use as well. Just install the solar panel and attach it to the installed fan wiring. Now, your attic will be cooled automatically any time the sun is shining. You’ll save big on air conditioning through the summer months.

In winter, the additional air flow will keep moisture from the living areas such as cooking steam or shower dampness from condensing on the cold interior of your attic. By venting all of this moisture out, your attic will stay dryer and mold will not have the water it needs to grow.

There are several popular models of solar attic fans available. You can find a variety of them at many online stores at very fair prices. This is one small investment that will easily pay off.
