Task Lighting

Desk lamps, table lamps and floor lamps are great, affordable types of Task Lighting that can help you save energy and money and decorate your home.

By using one smaller light instead of whole room lights, you can use less energy because you are only lighting the area you need, not the whole room. You also get better light because you can focus it exactly where you want it. This type of lighting is not just functional, it's decorative too. You have lots of styles to choose from to accent any type of room from a dorm room to a living room to your home office.

Desk and Table Lights

Task lights are affordable, easy to find and come in a variety of styles and colors. You can get one that sits right on the table or desk. If you need to move the light around, you can get one with a flexible arm or a top that swivels that allows you to do that.

If you want to save space, you can get a lamp that clips on to the edge of the table, bookshelf, etc. You just need some kind of ledge for the clip to attach to and you're ready to go.

Either type of lamp allows you to focus the light directly where you want it, whether it's reading, working on the computer, doing homework, whatever. The energy, and money, you're using is focused exactly where you need it.

Floor Lamps

Floor lamps are also decorative, from traditional wood looks to contemporary metal styles.

Don't Forget The Energy Efficient Bulbs!

Save even more energy no matter what types of lighting you use with the right bulbs. The two most common energy efficient light bulbs are Light Emitting Diode Lamps (LED's) and Compact Fluorescent Lamps (CFL's). Both types use less energy and last longer than regular bulbs. You can even get a 3 way bulb so you can choose how strong the light will be.
