Solar Hot Water Heater

Heating water takes energy so getting a Solar Hot Water Heater or a Tankless Water Heater could save you energy and money because they are both Energy Efficient. An Energy Star solar hot water heating system can reduce your annual hot water costs up to 50% and they may also be eligible for an Energy Tax Credit.

How Do They Work

Solar water heating uses panels similar to those used for solar swimming pool heating. The panels collect free energy from the sun and use it to heat the water.

Heating water using solar is a great supplement to other forms of water heating. If conditions are right for the amount of hot water your household uses, you may be able to meet your heating needs entirely through solar.

Installation

The panels need to be exposed to the sun in order to collect its energy. Flat roofs and south facing roofs work great.

Active Or Passive

Depending on where the water tank is in relation to the location of the solar panels, you will use either a passive or active system.
