Solar Power Lighting

Many homeowners are not fully aware of just how possible it is to incorporate solar power lighting into their everyday home energy requirements.

In fact solar power lighting can be achieved by a few different methods throughout the home, the basis of these different methods all originate from Photovoltaic Cells, which are better known as solar panels to you & me!.

Solar Power Lighting:
Solar panels convert sunlight(solar energy) into what is called solar electricity. The solar electricity is gathered and either stored in heavy duty batteries throughout the duration of the day and then subsequently used as a way to power the light throughout the duration of the night, or you can feed it directly back through to your main energy grid at an agreed price & then use it when you need to....thus saving a considerable amount of money!.

Outdoor Solar Lighting:
Also known as a solar yard light, can come in various forms. These forms include garden lighting, pathway lighting, driveway lighting, patio lighting, architectural lighting & outdoor christmas lighting.

This typically takes the form of relatively small outdoor lights, that have a "mini" solar panel on top of them that gathers solar energy during the day & provides soft-lighting for outdoor areas during the nightime.

The main advantage to them is that they require no wiring, so you can place them very easily wherever you want to & that once you have bought them the running costs are zero & there are no harmful emmissions generated by this process. The main disadvantage is that the light generated per unit, even after a full days sun only provides a limited but attractive output.

Daylighting:
Another way to incorporate solar power lighting into your home is through what is known as "daylighting". Daylighting is really useful form of passive solar energy. Daylighting uses the natural light directly provided by the sun as a way to brighten up your home naturally.

In order to use passive solar lighting as daylighting, windows must be properly positioned and sized as well as given the proper amount of shading. This is the surefire way to ensure that a home can be effectively lit naturally.

Daylighting can benefit the home by providing an abundance of natural light which can be considered a great comfort for those who really enjoy the outdoors. It also reduces the use and cost of electricity. Although it cannot be taken out of the equation completely, it can significantly lower the amount of money it typically costs!.
