How to Make Your Office Environmentally Friendly

by Vanessa
(California, USA)

We all spend a lot of time at work, without spending even 5 minutes to think how we can make our own office environmentally friendly. Making your office environmentally friendly will not require large changes that will change the way you work. Instead, it’s the small contributions that you can make on a daily basis that will make your office environmentally friendly. There are a few tips mentioned below which you can use to make your office more environmentally friendly.

First, you can start by switching off equipment when you leave office at the end of the day. It doesn’t matter if someone from office is staying back to work late. You can switch off your personal computer or the lights of your own cubical and can save a lot of energy and stop a lot of carbon being emitted into the environment each year. By fixing a power strip, it might be easier to switch of multiple appliances in the office by using just one switch.

You could also suggest the use of recycled paper for printing instead of buying new paper. This saves the cutting down of many trees each year and can make your office more environmentally friendly. Even more so, you should reuse old paper in the office for rough printing purposes. Or even better; don’t print unless it is absolutely necessary. This saves a lot on paper and allows your office to operate in a more environmentally friendly manner.

When you have the facilities of a telephone, cell phone and email, why not use it? If you can use these to keep yourself from driving around town and preventing the emissions of carbon into the air, you are operating in an environmentally friendly manner. We all buy coffee on our way to work or have coffee at work and never stop to think how harmful the paper cups can be for the environment. Bring in your own ceramic mug for coffee and your office will be throwing a lot less waste out that it would otherwise.

Another great idea is to recycle the stuff from your office. This includes the paper, the plastics, the electrical appliances and even the furniture. This makes you office environmentally friendly and also helps your community if you donate these items to charity. Printing is a norm in the office, so it is a good idea to try and use recycled ink for this purpose. Recycled cartridges are available for sale easily and make your office environmentally friendly.

These small tips can amount to a lot when put into effect in your office environment. It is as important to behave in an environmentally friendly manner in the office as it is when you are on the road or in your own home. Small steps go a long way and you can save the environment by doing you own part. Making your office environmentally friendly is a good idea which all of us should try to welcome.
