How to be an Energy Efficient Driver

by Harriet Bond
(Chicago, USA)

When we are concerned about our environment and our costs, we often ask ourselves how we can be a more energy efficient driver. The most efficient way to cut down on costs is through transport. We will take a look at some ways on how to become energy efficient driver ourselves.

Perhaps the best way to save on costs and on fuel is to travel through public transport. This way, you will be saving on a lot of energy, rather than taking your own car out, spending on the fuel and even emitting harmful gases into the environment.

Besides that, you can also be an a more energy efficient driver by running errands in combined trips. Taking spate trips for each errand can cost a lot in terms of fuel and pollution to the environment. Unnecessary trips need to be cut down!.

Other alternative forms of communication such as your cell phone could be used to get things done. However, if you really need to make it to a certain place, riding a bike or walking could be a good idea. If you need to drive to work, try car pooling with your colleagues. That’s how an energy efficient driver thinks!

Other ways to be an efficient driver is to keep a check on how you drive. Driving in smooth conditions reduces the amount of acceleration and heavy breaking, which also saves on quite a lot of fuel. You should try and use smoother routes so that you save on fuel this way. Also, it is a good idea to know exactly where you want to go. This way, you will be able to save fuel on your journey, especially if you spend time looking for the place, if you get lost, or you just haven’t made up your mind about where you want to go!.

When you are stuck in traffic, you can switch your car engine off. This saves you a lot of fuel, especially in the times when you are waiting. Once the traffic starts moving, you can switch on your car and get on with your journey. Traveling during times when traffic is also less would be a good tip for an energy efficient driver. This way you save fuel on having to wait in traffic.

By reducing the usage of your cars air conditioner, you can save on fuel as well and be an energy efficient driver. Also, an energy efficient driver makes sure that he never buys a car with an engine that is greater than what he needs. So that is another tip for becoming an energy efficient driver.

There are small tips that can go a long way in leading to significant cost savings for you and the environment. Energy efficiency is never a bad thing. Once you adopt the attitude of an energy efficient driver, you will notice how well the tips work for you and how much you can save on transport and on your fuel bill.
