The EU Energy Label

Consumers in the European Union have access to the EU Energy Label that gives some quick energy usage information for many appliances.

This colored card should be displayed on all dishwashers, refrigerators, clothes washers, lighting sources and air conditioners, whether the appliance is considered energy efficient or not. If you don't see one, be sure to ask sales person for one.

The label shows you the appliance's energy consumption and water consumption when applicable. Depending on the product, you will also get information on the unit's performance and noise level.

Products Are Given An Energy Rating

Products are rated from A to G, A being the most Energy Efficient. Some appliances can even rate an A++.

Each rating has a different color so it makes it really quick and easy to see a product's relative Energy Efficiency.

A is dark green.
B is green.
C is light green.
D is yellow.
E is orange.
F is light red.
G is red.

Also Look For Energy Star.

Products bearing this label meet strict energy efficiency guidelines and will save you energy and money. Some products will even exceed these strict guidelines!

Energy Star is very common, almost standard so some companies don't display the label clearly on the appliance itself. It should be on the store's product description but if you don't see it, be sure and ask.

Both the Energy Star rating system and the EU Energy Label make comparing products easier so you can choose the right ones for you and your family and start saving energy and money!
