Energy Star

What is it?

Backed by the government, the Energy Star program helps individuals and businesses protect the environment through superior energy efficiency. Its rating system helps consumers choose more Energy Efficient products.

In order to be awarded this rating, products must meet certain strict energy efficiency guidelines. Some products will even exceed these strict guidelines! If you see this rating on a product, you know it will save you energy and money.

How Do I Know Which Products are Energy Star?

These products will have a symbol on the product itself or on the product description. You might see the symbol on the brochure of larger items such as home improvement products. If you don't see it, be sure and ask.

Products in more than 40 categories are eligible.

This includes appliances, computers and printers, home improvement products and even new homes! And you can find Energy Star in Australia, Canada, the European Union, Japan, New Zealand, Taiwan and the United States.

    Heating & Cooling
  • Air-source Heat Pumps
  • Boilers
  • Central and Room AC
  • Ceiling Fans
  • Furnaces
  • Programmable Thermostats
  • Ventilating Fans

*For some large appliances and heating/cooling equipment, you can also use these free guides to compare the energy usage of various products, whether they are energy efficient or not.

The United States uses a black and yellow Energy Guide.
Canada uses the black and white EnerGuide Label.
Countries in the European Union use the EU Energy Label.

Note: Builders are free to select the Energy Efficiency features used in their new qualified homes.
