Energy Efficient Garage Doors

Your garage is part of your house so Energy Efficient Garage Doors, like the rest of your exterior doors, can help protect your home and car and save energy.

In some extreme climates, people heat and cool the garage which costs money. If you don't live in one of those places, you don't need to do that but you want the garage to be comfortable. Your garage doesn't need to be the same temperature as the interior of your home, but to help keep the garage from freezing in the winter and causing heat stroke in the summer, invest in a good garage door and install it properly.

Choose The Right Material

Extreme climates require a material that will stand up to punishing weather and will need more regular maintenance. Sometimes that's expensive. If you live in a less severe climate, you may not need the same type of material and your garage door may not need as much maintenance.

Wood Doors are beautiful but are susceptible to weather damage and are fairly expensive.

Steel Doors are strong, affordable and resist warping.

Fiberglass Doors are more expensive than steel, less expensive than wood and are resistant to warping, denting and rusting.

Installation and Insulation

Once you've invested in the right Garage Door for your home, the second step is installing it the right way so that the door can do its job. Proper installation and insulation will ensure a tight fit. This is especially true if you DO heat or cool your garage. You don't want the outside air getting in.

Keep The Door Closed

It's bad to leave the front door open when the heater or cooler is running. It's the same for the garage door. When the door is open, outside air, and possibly insects and other unwanted creatures, come in.
