Energy Efficient Swimming Pool Pumps

by Jonathan
(Canoga Park, CA, USA)

The DWP in Los Angeles is currently (as of May 2010) giving a $1,000 rebate check for customers who install an approved energy efficient multi speed pump.

These pumps save energy in many ways:

1)They have permanent magnet motors which are more efficient than copper wound motors.

2)They are designed to pump longer at a lower speed to reduce overall kilowatt use typically by 60% - 75%.

3)The water going through plumbing at reduced speed creates less friction, increasing efficiency.

4)These motors run cooler, also improving efficiency.

Recently, I installed a multi-speed pump for a customer who had an older 2 HP pump using about 10.5 amps running 8 hours a day. I set the pump to run 18 hours a day (enough to turn over her 38,000 pool once a day) using less than 300 watts....she went from over $3.00 to less than 0.83 cents a day. That's close to $800 a year savings!....PLUS the rebate!.

My name is Jonathan and I have been working on swimming pool equipment for over 25 years in the Los Angeles / Ventura County areas.
