Eco-Friendly Weddings

Southern Africa and more specifically South Africa has some incredible destinations to offer both its local and International travellers. There are some beautiful destinations and South Africa offers you not only an incredible continent to discover and explore. It offers affordability, diversity and contrast with a people
that look forward to welcoming you with both passion and enthusiasm.

Of the many wedding locations available there are also many eco-friendly wedding options from which to choose; and we encourage you to assist us with a responsible and sustainable approach to not only travel and tourism but weddings and business in South Africa.

If you have already found your dream location, then you do not necessarily have to go to a Green hotel although there are many that are well worth considering, we are just asking you to be eco-friendly and environmentally conscious while planning your special wedding day.

The idea is to encourage you to help eliminate waste and to protect our environment.

Here are a few ideas on how your wedding can be eco-friendly?
You can use silk or organic cotton or hemp in your wedding dress.
You can offer money to charity, instead of a gift registry.
You can get your guests to buy you eco-friendly gifts, organic towels and sheets, hemp rugs,
and Fair Trade products, for example Fair Trade wines, details of which can be found on their website. There are also handcrafted goods like jewellery and art pieces that are made by various artists coming from townships or rural areas. They are highly benefiting from the skill transfer projects and market access granted by fair trade.
Use locally grown flowers at your wedding, of which there are many beautiful options.
Donate your flowers after your wedding. There are many churches, hospitals and retirement facilities that would be grateful of this gesture.
Use Beeswax candles.
Consider eco-friendly confetti options, you can now get water-soluble bio-degradable confetti and it comes in different colours.
Recycle from the Bar, check with your wedding venue and pre-arrange bins to recycle.
Serve an organic or locally grown meal or consider a vegan menu for something different.
Choose eco-friendly wedding favours for your guests, these may include a tree planting ceremony, after which you can give your guests seeds for trees to take home.
