Alternative Energy Sources For The Home

by Dorothy "Dotty" Dutton
(Los Angeles, California, USA)

The numbers of energy sources that we can currently use are limited and with the raw energy prices increasing to record high levels very unpredictably, almost all of us are in search for alternative energy sources for our homes.

By using alternative energy sources for your home, you will be able to save costs from the very expensive electricity and gas bills that come in every month. Of course the initial investment will be quite a large amount, but the cost savings that you will be making every month over time will be substantial enough to pay back the investment you have made in these alternative energy sources.

Some of the more popular alternative energy sources that people use in their homes include solar power, water turbines and even wind energy. The use of these alternative energy sources can provide your home with a stable source of energy in times of power breakdowns. These sources of energy are powerful enough to provide the basic needs of heat, refrigeration and even water.

Solar panels are used as an alternative energy source. Solar panels are fit on the roof of your house and they capture the heat of the sun’s rays to heat your home and even heat the water. The solar panels also enable the energy to be stored and used in times of power shortages, giving you a stable source of energy. The advantage of this source of energy is that it is renewable. By positioning your home in a way to use the sunlight for solar panels can offer you significant cost savings.

Wind energy is another alternative source of energy for your home. Wind energy is already being used in some countries to provide electricity. The power of the wind pushed the blades of the wind turbines, which then provide electricity. These turbines can be fixed onto your roof and the sizes and costs vary. You need a certain amount of wind force for these turbines to produce electricity. There are smaller wind turbines available for urban homes that can be used as well, making it an alternative energy source for your home.

Geothermal energy is generated by using natural steam, heating water or the ground temperature also can be used. For a home, a ground pump can be used to make use of the ground temperature for energy generation. Once this alternative source of energy is installed in your home, you can enjoy a comfortable life with a stable source of energy for your house.

All these sources of energy obviously need to be researched in depth before you make a decision. The information may not be available all in one place which may make this investigation a painstaking task, but the hard work does pay off in the end when you are able to find an alternative energy source for your home while also saving on costs and operating in a more environmentally friendly manner, while also preserving the earth’s natural resources.
